Job Description
CASA is a community program of Hope College that mentors underrepresented elementary students for academic success and personal potential.
The coordinator will oversee the daily program, future program development, fundraising, and public relations.
The CASA Coordinator’s position is a part-time position; 45 weeks per year, 28 hours per week position with on-site work from late August through May and two months in the summer.
School year hours include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2:00 – 6:00 pm, plus 12 additional hours per week and occasional evening or weekend hours.
Summer hours include 8 weeks of 8am – 2pm with additional planning hours.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Programming
Plan and implement school year and summer programing
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer academic coaches (Hope students)
Maintain student files and records
Coordinate program transportation, assessments and evaluations
Recruit, enroll, and supervise CASA students
Organize student/parent workshops
Contacts and collaborations
Maintain student, family, school, and community contacts
Collaborate with Step Up and Upward Bound, as well as other campus and community resources
Assist with grants, donations, and fundraisers as requested
Public relations: Oversee program newsletters and social media
Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Supervision: CASA is part of the CASA-Step Up- Upward Bound program continuum and a member of the Educational Outreach Office at Hope College.
Qualifications
Desired skills and experiences include:
College degree and at least 2 years of experience in education, social work, non-profits, or a related field,
A self-starter and self-directed individual,
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with all constituents, including elementary youth,
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with diverse populations,
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task in a team setting and implement best practices.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Spanish conversational required,
Strong organizational and writing skills,
Allegiance with the Step Up, Upward Bound, CASA, and Hope College missions.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
