*Job Description: * *General Summary: * We are looking for a friendly librarian with a passion and excitement for life-long learning, books and community to join our team.
You’ll help our team ensure that the library runs smoothly on a daily basis, and all patrons are happy with our services.
Also, some important librarian tasks you’ll be undertaking include developing and leading all adult library programs, checking in and out library materials and providing basic reference services.
We’re a team here and we love our community of people.
You will report directly to the Library Director.
*Duties and Responsibilities: * *Customer Service: * Working as a team to ensure visitors have a positive library experience is the top priority of each library employee.
All employees are expected to provide friendly and exemplary service to all visitors and library members.
* You will take care of all circulation tasks, including but not limited to check in, check out, and renewal of library materials; issuance of library cards; shelving and organizing materials; collection and billing notices; and attending to patrons in person and on the phone.
* You will help patrons with library services such as faxing, copying, and using computers.
* You will help patrons locate materials in the library and online.
* You will promote, inform and assist members and visitors in the use of the Library’s online catalog, apps and digital collections.
* You will provide reference and reader's advisory services to library customers in person, on the phone, or through electronic communications.
* You will ensure that the library is a responsible, courteous lending partner.
This includes, but is not limited to: assisting with Interlibrary loan and MeL requests and shipments as needed.
* You will respond to public inquiries regarding library services, programs, and technologies.
* You will learn, adhere to, and help enforce all library policies.
* You will help maintain an inviting, attractive, safe, and comfortable environment for visitors.
*Adult Programming: * * You will develop, implement and lead all adult programming.
* You will coordinate and lead all adult reading programs throughout the year.
* You will coordinate and lead one adult book club, monthly.
*Teamwork: * Excellent service comes when we work as a team.
We help each other get the job done no matter what our job title and corresponding responsibilities are.
* You will collaborate with, and assist, your fellow colleagues with the preparation and execution of library programs and services for all ages.
* You will assist your fellow colleagues with seeking out, establishing and leading outreach opportunities within our community.
* You will assist your fellow colleagues with creating library displays to highlight book collections and services.
*Additional Roles: * * You will help maintain the availability of library materials by shelving books and other materials, reading the shelves and organizing materials into their proper sequence.
* You will keep petty cash and daily circulation statistics.
* You will check materials for damage and makes repairs (if possible).
* You will finish processing and covering new materials for active circulation.
* You will oversee customers and their use of the library and its resources, maintaining the appropriate atmosphere and discipline depending upon the area and the customers being served.
* You will maintain library confidentiality regarding patron records.
* You will attend team meetings once a month.
* You will attend workshops for professional development, as requested.
* You will continuously develop a strong knowledge of the library collection and materials, as well as its strengths and weaknesses.
* You will assist with weeding of library materials.
*Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * * You must have the ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with colleagues, professional contacts, other administrators and the public.
* You must be able to communicate effectively and deal courteously and diplomatically with the public on all age levels, abilities, and backgrounds using written and verbal communication.
* You must have proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
* You must have great attention to detail and the ability to independently and effectively plan and execute tasks, prioritize work, meet established deadlines, and follow tasks to completion with little supervision and frequent interruptions.
* You must have the ability to deal calmly with stressful situations and represent the Library in a positive and professional manner.
* Strong initiative and work ethic with a commitment to the library and its current and future success.

* Occasionally requires lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds for short distances.
* Requires reaching, including overhead reaching.
* Requires standing, sitting, walking, using hands to handle objects.
* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (vision requirements necessary to do computer work, observe patrons, and supervise staff).
* Ability to use a computer keyboard and mouse.
* Ability to use speech and hearing in person and over the phone.
*Education and Certification: * * Previous experience as a librarian is preferred but not required * Must have attained high school completion * Must be willing to complete and maintain certification as required by the Library of Michigan *Schedule: * * Hours are flexible and will vary with programming schedule or busy times of the year * Must be able to work flexible hours, including Saturdays, evenings, and some holidays.
* Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
* Must be able to adapt (work) schedule to cover for ill, vacationing, or otherwise unavailable colleagues.
*Hours and Pay: * * Part-Time.
18-20 hours per week.
* $13.
