*Position Summary:* Plans, implements, and evaluates activities to meet the various needs and interests of our residents.
Is responsible for each resident to have the opportunity for educational and social activities within their own ability on a daily basis.
Supervises and provides services to assist all residents to attain and maintain their highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

Essential Responsibilities:*
1.
Develop, direct, plan and organize an ongoing programs and activities for residents in the facility, while supervising life enrichment staff members and volunteers.
2.
Provide clinical services (i.
e.
assessment, group programs, one to one treatment, community outings) and ensure these services are carried out according to policy and best practice guidelines.
3.
Responsible for ensuring and implementing effective leisure adaptations to meet individual resident needs during programs, while integrating these activities with other disciplines including rehabilitation to add to their quality of life.
4.
Coordinate and maintain resident / family relations and support groups including resident and family councils.
5.
Evaluate the effectiveness of recommendations and implementations of treatment based on information gathered (MDS).
6.
Advocate for residents right to leisure/recreation, and the maintenance/improvement of functional abilities through programming.
7.
Assure the preparation of a weekly and monthly activity calendar based on the assessed needs and interests of residents.
8.
Collaboratively manages the day-to-day activities, operations and staff of Recreation department.
9.
Participate in staff interviews and staff coaching/counseling.
10.
Maintain Recreation Therapy documentation (i.
e.
assessment, progress notes, minimum data sets (MDS), resident assessment protocols (RAPS), care plans, discharge summaries, treatment notes, daily charting).
11.
Collaborate with the Recreational Therapy Manager to develop short and long-term departmental goals and objectives based on the philosophy and goals of Resthaven.
12.
On-call for support and direction for the life enrichment team after hours.
13.
Professionally represents Resthaven and interacts with community members while demonstrating a genuine commitment to the mission of Resthaven Care Community.
Attends seminars, meetings and educational opportunities to stay current with latest developments and trends in the marketplace as deemed appropriate.

Essential Skills & Experience:*
1.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.
Certification as a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
2.
Experience with special populations required.
Practical experience working with seniors and experience working in long term care preferred.
Possess basic knowledge of health care and medical issues, as well as disabilities and diagnoses.
3.
Effective or and written communication skills including the ability to speak, read and write English in a clear and understandable manner.
4.
Commitment to confidentiality, privacy, quality of life, advocacy for residents and improvement/maintenance of functional abilities.
