Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate Required
Must be highly qualified to teach Music (JQ or JX) required
High School and/or Middle School Band teaching experience preferred
Track record of ability to recruit students into the band program and retain at the high level preferred
Relational skills that reach students from a diverse demographic background
Experience working with English Language Learners preferred
Job Responsibilities:
Provide band instruction at the 6th -12th grade level for a variety of ensembles (All classes are team taught.
) Team teach an after school Middle School jazz band (meets weekly) Develop positive relationships with students and parents.
Represent the district with professionalism at all times and in all performances Exhibit excellent classroom management Work as a professional team member in collaboration with the other secondary level teachers and colleagues Coordinate performances throughout the school year Perform at the high level at band festivals Help host District Band Festivals Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; those activities where detailed or import spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
