Job Description
Under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director, performs various accounting, budgeting, reporting, and grant management functions in compliance with federal and state statutes.
The position performs basic and specialized accounting work that ranges from task-oriented, routine duties to assisting with larger department initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.
Assists with fiscal agent responsibilities for Macatawa Area Express Authority (MAX).
Duties include cash management, grant management (both Federal and State), reporting (both quarterly and annually), etc.
2.
Main fiscal contact for Holland Energy Fund.
Duties include various accounting duties and reporting (monthly and annually).
3.
Support processing of grants by providing financial data for reporting purposes and preparing journal entries.
4.
Responsible for various account reconciliations.
5.
Track on-line payments for city-wide operations, prepare related journal entries for fees, and send correspondence with payment information to appropriate departments.
6.
Reviews fixed asset annual purchases, determines value and addition of assets, processes disposals and reconciles to the general ledger.
7.
Serves as a backup for cashier duties.
8.
Prepare miscellaneous journal entries as needed.
9.
Assist with preparation of supporting documentation for the annual audit.
10.
Assist with budget preparation including updating schedules and other duties as needed.
11.
Prepares various Miscellaneous Receivable invoices as assigned.
12.
Prepares various financial reports for departments.
13.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: -
1.
The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
2.
Two to four years accounting experience, preferably in municipal environment or familiarity with governmental accounting.
3.
Interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and accurate information and responses to community members, vendors, and various levels of City personnel.
4.
Proficient computer skills necessary to work with software such as word processing, spreadsheets, accounting, and web based.
5.
Ability to make routine mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
6.
Mental ability to frequently handle pressures related to working on projects requiring attention to detail and perform data entry for prolonged periods of time.
7.
Physical ability to lift and transport files weighing up to 50 pounds.
